"Let's go in," Shanshan said, pulling a reluctant Nini toward the villa.
"Shanshan, this is someone else's home, after all. Is it really okay for us to just walk in?"
"This isn't just anyone's home. This is Bott's house. He lives here."
Nini's eyes widened as she stared at the well-appointed villa before them. They were in the Island Heart District. Even as a child, from hearing adults talk, she understood what that implied. "Then why can't he even get enough to eat?"
Bott seemed very resistant to going home, a look of misery on his face, but with Shanshan forcefully pulling him, he was brought to the front door.
The heavy door was pushed open, and a foul stench assaulted them. The room was filled with garbage, and a woman lay sprawled in a heap of trash, surrounded by liquor bottles.
"Bott, is this your mother?" Nini asked softly.
The green-haired boy struggled more fiercely, eventually crying out in fear.
