The green, elongated monster slowly crawled to face Charles. It opened its mouth full of jagged teeth and began sucking on its slender, blood-stained fingers one by one.
When it got to the third finger, a mangled, bloody ear was still hanging from it. The monster tossed it into its mouth and chewed with relish.
Watching this, Charles propped himself up and reached for his right ear, only to find nothing there—just a bloody, gaping hole.
He took a slow, deep breath, and then his body gradually faded into the air.
The elongated monster couldn't detect Charles in his invisible state and could only spin uselessly in place. As it frantically searched, a long spike suddenly appeared before it.
The sharp Black Thorn sliced through the monster's body like a hot knife through tofu, shearing off most of it in an instant. Yet, despite such a grievous injury, it could still move. The monster's hands rapidly sprouted green threads, which slashed forward.
