The fine yellow sand drifted with the breeze. Though the desert wasn't hot, the air was extremely dry. Lily was still a little thirsty. She licked her lips but didn't ask Mr. Charles for any fresh water. There were no supply points here, and they had to conserve water for the return trip.
Suddenly, a bottle cap full of water was held out in front of her. "Drink up. We can afford to feed a mouse."
Lily cupped the bottle cap in both hands and said, smiling brightly, "Thank you, Mr. Charles." She then brought her mouth to the cap and drank eagerly in small sips. In no time, the cap was empty. Lily let out a long sigh as her drooping ears perked up. "That was so refreshing!"
Charles patted her head. "Once the Narwhal is fully refitted, we won't have to be so frugal."
"And then our ship will be like that one that can travel directly on land? That sounds incredible." As Lily spoke, her long tail swept back and forth across Charles's fingertips.
