"Treat them well," Charles said to the director of the sanatorium.
"Rest assured, Governor. My staff and I will do our utmost to serve your crew," the middle-aged man in a white coat and glasses replied respectfully.
"They're not my crew. They're my family." With that, Charles took Anna and turned away from the sorrowful place.
He didn't get into the car waiting to take him to the Governor's Mansion. The tragedy that had befallen his crew left him heavy-hearted, and he wanted to walk to clear his head. Anna reached out with both hands, wrapping her arm in his and gently resting her head on his shoulder.
"So, have you decided to go up? When are we leaving? I'll go with you."
Charles reached out and put his arm around her slender waist. "It's not that simple. We don't know what the situation is up there, whether the army has already sealed it off, or even its precise location. Since we've decided to go, we need to be fully prepared."
