Charles's heart clenched. He quickly grabbed Lily and rolled over, using his body to block the sunlight. "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"Mr. Charles, don't worry, I'm fine. This sunlight doesn't seem to hurt mice."
"How do you know that?"
"It's true! Mao Mao and the others just secretly followed you into the woods."
When Charles saw the mice beside him happily munching away, none of them dead, he finally let out a sigh of relief.
Perhaps mice are built differently than the humans of the Abyss-Sea. For now, it seemed the sunlight really didn't harm these rodents.
Charles arrived at what he felt was the most likely conclusion. Mice and cockroaches really are the most adaptable creatures in the world.
Lily scratched at the crisscrossing wounds on Charles's body with her little paw. "Really? Are mice that tough?"
