Oyster shells clinked against the iron plate, and soon a steaming cup of milky oysters was placed in front of Charles.
Just as Charles was about to pay, Old John waved his hands to stop him. "This one's on me. Today's Landing Day Festival has been great for business; I'm not short on cash."
Charles pinched a bill from his wallet. With a grip and a flick of his left hand, the money flew directly into the cash box. "Next time. I happen to have exact change."
Before Old John could reply, Charles took his cup of oysters and quickly disappeared into the crowd.
"Ah, that kid is doing well for himself now. If only I hadn't left the ship back then."
Old John sighed emotionally. As he rummaged through the cash box, he was surprised to find half a piece of gold wrapped inside the bill that had just flown in.
Savoring the creamy oysters, Charles looked around at the roadside performances.
