"We'll have to split up, I'm counting on all of you!" shouted Masaki Uzumaki, the clan leader, to himself and three other elders he had appointed as leaders for each side, while he headed south to face Suna.
"I'm going west to support Hanabi, as Minato suggested. Good luck to you all!" said Tsuna to Kushina and Mikoto, who nodded as she dashed to the other side of the island.
"I'm going north. Good luck, Kushina!" Mikoto said as she advanced in that direction.
Kushina remained there with several members of the Uzumaki who had landed on that side along with the groups already responsible for the water jutsu and paper bombs from earlier, as she prepared to finally fight for the place where she was born.
Minato, in the sky, kept his eyes on the ninjas advancing over the water from all sides toward the island.
The real battle had begun.
While their allies positioned themselves in each corner of the island to confront them behind the barriers, the fight was about to begin — though the number of enemies had been greatly reduced, some even by half.
The attacks and traps had struck them hard; the force that took the most damage was the Kiri ninjas. Even though they had lost about 35% of their forces, it was mainly because they managed, for the most part, to perform water shield jutsus, surrounding themselves in a protective circle during the explosion. Still, many were killed and injured.
Either way, he had to stay alert. Soon, the bijū would begin transforming upon first contact.
Meanwhile, beneath Uzushiogakure, people were huddled together in a large group. There were several rooms created by earth walls, all sealed with fuuinjutsu, protecting over a thousand Uzumaki gathered there.
Children, women, the elderly, and some men who were not shinobi were there, waiting for the battle to end.
"Mommy, will they drive away the bad men who want to hurt us?" a little red-haired girl trembled as her mother held her close.
"Your father is up there, fighting for us, Marilyn. Don't worry. We have brave shinobi from the Uzumaki clan," said the older woman, stroking her daughter's head.
"Yes, mommy, they're up there fighting, but I'm worried... I want daddy to come back..." the girl insisted, her voice timid and fearful.
"Then you must be brave too." another voice came, as the little girl and the woman looked toward another Uzumaki sitting nearby, smiling as she listened to the conversation.
"Your father is up there fighting bravely, you must be brave and believe that he will return safely too." the woman said, trying to lift the girl's spirits.
The girl thought for a moment about what she had just heard and nodded. "Yes, I'll be brave too," she admitted with more confidence. Her mother gave the other woman a grateful smile for that.
"You know, I also have a daughter, and she's out there fighting too," said the woman, while the girl's mother gave a sad smile.
"I think I know you. You're the one who had your daughter sent to Konoha. I remember you from that time," said the woman cautiously.
"That's true, it happened years ago. But my daughter is back," Akahana said. "By the way, my name is Akahana."
"I saw her. They say she's very powerful. My husband said she and her friends are here to help protect our clan — the only ones from Konoha who came to our aid," the woman said with a slightly sad tone.
"She went to Konoha?!" the girl said in surprise, interrupting the two women's conversation. "Daddy said they turned their backs on us," the girl said, searching for answers in the faces of the older women.
"It's true. But some of them came to help us... didn't you see a boy with other girls, with hair different from ours, dear?" the woman asked her daughter gently, smiling softly.
"I think I did. He was with them at the meeting with the leader Daddy took us to. I also saw a girl with blonde hair and another woman with black hair pass by. Ah! Now I remember, my friends said the adults were saying they came to help!" she said excitedly.
Everyone in the village had seen Minato and the others. Of course, they stood out easily because of their hair color, so different from the Uzumaki's, but not everyone recognized them — though only a small few didn't remember who they were.
"Yes, my daughter and her friends are there to protect the clan. Even though they are few in number, they've been helping significantly in the defense and will fight alongside the others. My husband would have been proud of our daughter," said Akahana Uzumaki.
"There's nothing better than the hope of a little girl, isn't there?" a voice beside them said, as she turned to see an elderly man with white hair and white eyes.
"I'm sure there isn't. Your granddaughter is out there fighting too," Akahana said to Hanabi's grandfather, who was also there.
"I know... I never imagined there would come a time in my life when I'd be hiding in an Uzumaki shelter after fleeing the Village of Konoha," he laughed.
As they continued talking and trying to give each other hope despite the uncertainty, amid all that atmosphere, the first enemies finally arrived at the southeast of Uzushiogakure.
Kushina was forming a sequence of hand seals quickly, using an enormous amount of chakra, merging Kurama's chakra with her own to use the water element.
She swiftly moved the water to the front of the island and advanced, creating the same kind of tsunami jutsu — only on a smaller scale. However, Kushina did it all by herself.
All the Uzumaki watched in awe as the water rose before them against the enemies, while the Kiri ninjas were caught by surprise, some being thrown back by the advancing tsunami. The blast reached its full tidal form.
The Mizukage, who was just behind, narrowed his eyes. As the wave came straight at them, the Uzumaki acted once again — after all, more paper bombs that hadn't been sent with the first tsunami and were still in those waters surged toward the Kiri ninjas.
The Uzumaki ninjas activated new explosive tags. The explosion wasn't as large-scale as the previous one, but it still caught several ninjas off guard as they tried to recover from the tsunami, which hadn't killed anyone.
"Go, don't stop!" shouted the Mizukage, charging through the misty smoke ahead. Kushina quickly created multiple shadow clones, and the Uzumaki also created thousands of them right there, as they all advanced across the water to meet their enemies.
"Quick, finish off these damned Uzumaki clones!" the Mizukage growled, furious at the sheer number of clones the enemy could produce so quickly, launching himself and his group forward with kunai in hand. A fierce clash began, with explosions erupting all around, clones being destroyed — but Kiri ninjas also falling, screaming in agony as they were struck by weapons.
A bloody war had erupted there, filled with smoke and blood, while the originals still remained on the island, waiting.
"Well, that'll slow them down a bit," Kushina nodded, satisfied, but soon the clones began to dwindle. She didn't have much skill in taijutsu when not in Kurama Mode, as her training had been partially neglected during the years she'd been trapped in the cage Konoha had placed her in, and her clones were taking losses constantly.
As more ninjas advanced, six of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist appeared and continued slashing through every clone — whether hers or those of the other Uzumaki who were advancing alongside the Mizukage.
When the last clone was dispersed, the leader of Kiri looked around, seeing hundreds of Kiri ninjas dead. His fury immediately turned toward the Uzumaki, who still stood facing them from the shore of the island, not retreating a single step. It was far too humiliating.
"With me!" he commanded. Quickly, several of his ninjas followed as he began forming a series of hand seals.
The sea started to churn violently, and several dragon heads emerged — not just a few, but hundreds of them, as hundreds of ninjas activated the same jutsu at once.
The water creatures surged toward the island, where Kushina and the others stood unmoving until they crashed hard against the barrier. The heads exploded, hurling waves and steam in all directions.
"So there's more than one barrier... but I thought the last one had been destroyed by the Nibi's bijūdama," muttered the Mizukage, even more irritated, realizing that all their attacks had failed and only caused a needless waste of chakra.
Some ninjas rushed forward at that moment, trying to fight the enemies hand to hand, but they also struck the barrier, unable to pass through it. The barrier only became visible when touched; afterward, it rippled and turned invisible again.
"I think it's time to use you two." In the end, the Mizukage looked at the two jinchūriki, who nodded, while Kushina narrowed her eyes, ready to act.
On the eastern side, Ōnoki was advancing over his ninjas when he noticed strange movement. He saw a group of Uzumaki using bows, with someone who wasn't Uzumaki leading them.
"Ready! Fire!" shouted Hanabi, as her bow released with the force of the wind, hitting the middle of the troops. The water exploded along with the wind chakra, spreading violently, men screaming as the impact devastated the enemy line.
Ōnoki had to stare in disbelief — that attack was at least rank A — and it took down half a dozen Iwa ninjas as the water finally settled and several bodies were left behind.
His attention returned to the group of archers, who were now firing another wave of wind-element arrows, hitting the front line of enemies. More than a hundred bows were drawn there, and the arrows exploded in waves of chakra against the Iwa troops.
Quickly, a large number of Stone Village ninjas didn't even have time to react as the arrows struck them while they were still at sea. Their earth jutsus were limited there.
"This is bad!" exclaimed Ōnoki as he advanced rapidly toward where his Iwa ninjas were charging ahead of him, trying to boost their morale.
Hanabi saw him and aimed her bow at him, firing. Ōnoki barely dodged — the arrow shot past him at high speed, his eyes narrowing, a flash of anger gleaming as he continued forward. Another group of arrows was fired, hitting more Iwa ninjas who were advancing from the front, but they were getting closer and closer to the barrier.
Ōnoki passed all the Iwa ninjas and, close enough to Hanabi, raised his hand, which began to glow. He fired a Dust Release beam, his signature jutsu. However, before it could hit Hanabi, the barrier appeared, stopping the attack from advancing.
"What?! A barrier?!" he exclaimed, shocked, as he saw his ninjas arrive and slam into the same barrier moments later.
"There's a barrier!" Ōnoki shouted, raising his hand again to fire another beam that struck the luminous surface. Several of his ninjas also reacted, launching stone fists that crashed hard against the barrier, making it tremble.
However, as the barrier was struck repeatedly, a thunderous sound came from the other side of the island, and the entire barrier quaked.
It simply burst apart before a third barrier formed — trembling — only to be destroyed shortly after as a bijūdama passed over the western side of the island and exploded. On the northern side, another bijūdama had also detonated, while no one in the west knew what was happening on the other fronts.
