Far to the southeast over the ocean somewhere between Oto and the Central Continent lay a region of floating islands. This region was known as the Floating Islands of Val, the Sky Kingdom.
The islands used to be part of a single whole, a continent all on their own. But the cataclysm tore it apart. This ancient continent hosted one of the many spatial tears that cemented the downfall of the old civilization.
The rift tore the land to pieces, and brought with it strange side effects. The fragmented shards floated up high above tho clouds, and those clouds solidified into something strange. The creatures that inhabited the original land were powerless in their ascent, and as the mana grew thicker with each increase in altitude, they too began to change.
For most, the change was too much. Both people and beast alike mutated and died as blobs of flesh, while those who survived ruled over these new islands as winged lords.
