Lu Changchuan woke up to the distant and ancient sound of the morning bell.
He got up and went out. A bucket of water had already been placed by the door, and the opposite room was empty.
After a simple wash, he followed the memory of last night's arrival to the front courtyard, where he saw the monks of Yun Wu Temple each busy with their tasks.
No matter where they met him, they would stop and greet with hands folded, "Good day, donor Lu, Sister Huai Miao is in the master's courtyard."
He made his way to Master Juekong's courtyard, but before Lu Changchuan could decide whether to knock or give the master and his disciple some alone time, the courtyard door opened, and a little monk greeted, "Please come in..."
Sitting across each other at the stone table in the courtyard were Ye Wan and Master Juekong.
Ye Wan in his white clothes looked like an elf emerging from a bamboo blossom on the hillside behind.
