Chapter 110: Infirmary Visit (I).
The whole group waited for the class to be over.
They all planned to visit the resting Analissa Blanchet in the infirmary.
"This will be on the exams," (Professor Lionheart) said, his voice cutting cleanly through the classroom. "I suggest you take good care of your notes. The examination will be next week, so the eggs you have been caring for all this time should be in good condition by then."
A wave of tension swept through the room.
Several students stiffened in their seats. Others exchanged uneasy glances, their faces paling as they remembered the graded project Professor Lionheart had assigned at the beginning of the semester.
The eggs.
After the chaos of the Foundation Festival, almost everyone had pushed the exam to the back of their minds.
Lady Evelyn Alarie lowered her gaze to her notebook, but the words on the page blurred together.
She could not focus on the lesson at all. Her thoughts kept circling back to Analissa Blanchet. What would she do if the heroine still had not woken up from her coma?
Lady Evelyn's fingers tightened around her pen.
"The exams..." she whispered under her breath.
It was another problem she had no room for, yet it had arrived anyway.
Analissa was a scholarship student. She had only been allowed into Class 1-A because of her rare light magic and special circumstances. If she failed to place within the top ten of the entire first year, her position would become unstable.
And Evelyn knew that better than anyone.
"I invited her to spend time with me..." (Lady Evelyn) muttered, her chest tightening. "I promised I would help her study."
Her eyes lowered, she wanted to spend more time with her...
Now Analissa was lying unconscious, and Lady Evelyn was sitting in class, pretending she was fine.
The bell rang.
Professor Lionheart closed his book with a sharp clap.
"That is all. Dismissed."
Chairs scraped against the floor as the students rose from their seats. The room quickly filled with noise as everyone began packing their bags, whispering anxiously about the exams and the condition of their eggs.
Lord Ein was one of the first to stand.
He grabbed his bag in a hurry, his expression unusually bright. He was clearly eager to visit Analissa Blanchet, hoping- praying- that she had finally woken up.
There were many things he wanted to say to her.
He made his way toward the back of the classroom, where Lady Evelyn was hastily gathering her things.
"Are you ready to go?" (Lord Ein) asked.
Lady Evelyn slipped one book into her bag and gave a small nod.
"Mm."
"Wait a second. I'll get Harriot." Before she could respond, Lord Ein had already turned away and walked toward Harriot Yates.
Lady Harriot looked up the moment he approached her. A shy smile bloomed across her face as she clutched the strap of her bag.
"Are you good to go, Lady Yates?" (Lord Ein) asked politely.
"Yes, Lord Loucrat," (Lady Harriot) replied, her voice soft. "I've already asked my servants to bring everything I'll need."
"Good."
Lady Evelyn paused. Her hand stopped over the clasp of her bag. She watched the two of them for a moment, her expression unreadable. Lord Ein was smiling at Lady Harriot so naturally. Harriot, in return, looked almost relieved to be near him.
Happy even.
She notices another person who hasn't left the classroom just yet, Lady Evelyn reached for her shoulder hoping to get her attention but hesitated. They... haven't quite made up yet, and for some reason she can't even remember why they were having trouble talking in the first place.
"Serene... how about you? Would you like to join us?"
Lady Serene Sinclair jolts hearing her name, but she shakes her head, puffing her chest out as always and acts all high. "I have no time to visit someone like the commoner. Unlike all of you I take my studies seriously, good day."
With that she takes her bag and leaves.
Lady Evelyn narrowed her eyes slightly. "How about you three, will all of you be coming?"
The three were Mary Brightmoor, Margaret Howard and Blaire Charming.
"I want to visit, but I decided I'll talk to Analissa Blanchet after I speak with Julienne Allis," (Lady Mary) said, a polite smile gracing her lips. "There are a few things I need to set right- Julienne is waiting for me at the library."
"I would be delighted to visit her," (Lady Margaret) added.
"If Lord Einsel is going, then I'll go too," (Lady Blaire) chimed in looking at Lord Ein with a big wide smile on her face. She thought of getting close to him while she had the chance.
The villainess nodded as Lady Mary lowered her head in respect for understanding to talk with Lady Julienne Allis first before confronting her ahead. It won't be good for her family if she decided to butt heads with Alarie. "Please give her my regards if she's awake."
She waves goodbye before leaving the five of them alone.
"Then let's go."
Step, step, step.
"Hold on one moment."
Professor Lionheart's voice carried clearly across the hallway.
"Professor Lionheart?" (Lady Evelyn) asked, turning toward him.
The other students paused mid-step, glancing curiously at the exchange. Whispers rippled among them as they watched their professor's attention focus solely on Lady Alarie.
"May I speak with you in private, Lady Alarie?" he asked, his tone calm but firm.
"Of course, Professor," (Lady Evelyn) replied, bowing slightly, while the others exchanged intrigued looks, wondering what could warrant such a summons. "Wait for me, it will be a moment."
...
"My apologies for taking a moment of your time. I didn't get the chance to tell you, your class' play was wonderful. A success, truly," he said, his tone warm.
Lady Evelyn lowered her head slightly, feeling a flicker of impatience- but she kept her composure. "Thank you, Professor."
"You... didn't attend the awarding ceremony. If you're free, you may stop by the faculty office to claim your second-place award in the Magic Duelist Competition. Your class was also voted the people's favorite."
The villainess couldn't help but smile at the news- they had been voted the people's favorite among all the class acts.
Their play... was the crowd's favorite.
Her thoughts immediately turned to the blonde girl.
She couldn't wait to tell her how much her act of selflessness had meant, and how her courage in facing her stage fright had left a lasting impression on the last day of the foundation festival.
Her performance was commendable and so was her bravery, and the villainess wanted her to know it mattered.
"That is good news," (Lady Evelyn) murmured.
Professor Lionheart couldn't look his own student in his eyes, this was Evelyn Alarie who nearly got burned to death... yet as her homeroom teacher he couldn't do much to protect his student. "Three days have passed since the festival. All staff have been informed of the situation. I hope you're recovering well after the arena accident."
She places a hand on her chest, "...Analissa Blanchet saved me, Professor. That's why I'm taking care of her in return."
"She really is a kind girl," (Professor Lionheart) said, his voice gentle but firm. "I wanted to discuss her absences. While I understand she had valid reasons, one more strike will result in an official warning. At this rate, she might be moved to Class 1-B. She's falling behind in coursework and quizzes. I... don't want to see that happen."
He handed Evelyn a neatly folded stack of notes. "I composed these to help her for the exams. She's a scholarship student. I know teachers shouldn't show favoritism, but I fear we may lose a good student otherwise."
Lady Evelyn took the notes with a small bow, her fingers tightening slightly around the paper. "Thank you, Professor Lionheart. This... helps more than you know."
"That will be all. Do your best on the exams. You're dismissed." The lion-beast professor waves his paws goodbye and leaves the hallway feeling a little grateful that someone like Analissa Blanchet has found a good friend to rely on.
Lady Evelyn rejoined the group, slipping the notes carefully into her bag. Blaire Charming glanced at them curiously.
"Why did Professor Lionheart call you?" she asked.
"He gave me this," (Lady Evelyn) replied. "These are notes for Analissa Blanchet. He's concerned her attendance might jeopardize her scholarship so... she really needs to be on top of the exam."
"I'm glad our homeroom teacher is taking action- even if he didn't grant an extension for the play," (Lady Margaret) said thoughtfully. "He's just following the rules."
"I-If Miss Blanchet needs more notes, I can give her mine too," (Lady Harriot) offered quietly, her voice soft but sincere.
"That's kind of you, Lady Yates. Perhaps I could borrow them as well?" (Lord Ein) said teasingly, a small smile tugging at his lips.
"Haha, at this point we might as well hold a study session together when we're free," (Lady Blaire) suggested, glancing at the group. "So we can still borrow Miss Blanchet's notes together, we can all be study buddies."
Everyone paused, considering it.
It wasn't a bad idea at all.
Lord Ein grinned at Harriot, who tilted her head with an innocent smile. 'If we can have a study date, Harriot can meet Analissa properly. After all the support she's been giving the idiot, she deserves to know her and become proper friends.'
"Alright, that doesn't seem like a bad idea. We'll talk about it once we get there." (Lady Evelyn) said, tucking the notes securely into her bag. "Let's go visit Miss Analissa Blanchet in the infirmary."

The Infirmary

"Liara."
The nurse looked up from her duties. Inside the infirmary, a maid was helping keep things tidy, sweeping the floor and dusting shelves. Liara herself moved methodically from counter to counter, carefully arranging jars of salves, folding bandages, and wiping down surfaces with precise, practiced movements.
"Greetings, milady! Oh- so many friends with you today," she said, pausing to glance at the group.
"They're visiting. How is she?" (Lady Evelyn) asked.
"She's well and resting. You can check on her inside," (Liara) replied, setting down her cloth and straightening her apron.
"Alright," (Lady Evelyn) said, motioning the others forward.
"Hold on since when did you decide you're the boss of this infirmary?" The old nurse stops them from entering any further. "There's... too many of you, and it's not even visiting hours, Lady Alarie. This is the infirmary, not a playground."
"Apologies if we came unannounced. We wouldn't want to anger such a beautiful nurse like yourself," (Lord Ein) said smoothly, flashing a charming smile.
"Oh my! What a handsome young man you are, ohoho! You flatter me so," The nurse said, reclining lazily on a stool and nibbling from the tin of fancy cookies she had been given earlier.
'Easy.' (Lord Ein) thought, being aware that he's handsome he takes this chance to help them butter up the nurse. "No, no... It's not flattery madam but the truth. You are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen."
'So he flirts like that too,' (Lady Harriot) thought, raising an eyebrow slightly trying not to laugh at his cheesy lines because it was so bad.
It was a good thing the nurse was falling for it but any other shouldn't be this easy to fall for someone like Lord Ein.
Meanwhile, someone who's already eyeing Lord Ein was dying from jealousy.
It was Lady Blaire Charming who wished that nurse was her instead. 'Oh my light may he strike me with that smile! I love him! If only he wasn't engaged I would've made my move already!'
"You may all come inside," The nurse said, still smiling with a flushed face. "But you can stay for only an hour- and don't be too noisy."
To seal the deal, Lord Ein stepped forward with effortless grace.
Sunlight caught the sharp angles of his face, highlighting his striking features- the confident tilt of his jaw, the gleam in his clear, dark blue eyes, and the way his hair fell just so over his brow.
He reached for the nurse's hand and pressed a delicate kiss to the back of it, his movements smooth and practiced.
"Thank you, madam. You are the embodiment of kindness," He said, his deep, warm voice carrying a charm that made even the nurse's usual boredom falter for a moment. His smile- gentle yet confident- was enough to draw glances from everyone nearby, leaving a faint trace of awe in the air.
The nurse blinked, momentarily flustered, crumbs of her cookies forgotten, as the polish and poise of Lord Ein's presence left a subtle impression she hadn't expected. "Oh you-! Ohoho! My husband will grow jealous once I tell him about this. Now go on, all of you."
With a satisfied smile they all went inside.
The villainess glares at him in an annoyed manner, "Did you really have to do all of that?"
The knight shrugged and winked, "It is not my fault I was born beautiful and handsome."
The other three were gawking at how he can just say that with a straight face.
He turns to the three other companions that they have and asks, "Do you not agree, everyone?"
"You are beautiful, Lord Ein! The most handsome! My heart skipped a beat! You are God's gift to humankind!" (Lady Blaire) gave an enthusiastic answer.
"Well, certainly I cannot say otherwise. You have charm." (Lady Margaret) merely laughed it off.
"Um... I-It helped us get in the infirmary... you're alright in my book." (Lady Harriot) answered the most weakly, leaving Lord Ein's pride to take a hit and he pouts.
"You don't think I'm handsome, Harriot? I thought you were warming up to me. You can be a little honest." He stopped walking, giving Lady Harriot a steady look that made her halt in her tracks. "I want your honest opinion of me."
"I... um... you know... you're... um..." she stammered, unable to find the words.
"Stop teasing Lady Yates." (Lady Evelyn) smacked him lightly on the shoulder and offered Harriot an assuring smile. "It's alright, you don't have to follow his nonsense."
"A-ah... thank you," (Lady Harriot) murmured, a little thankful for her save.
Lord Ein clicked his tongue, rolling his eyes at the killjoy as usual. "You're no fun. Admit I'm handsome, and I'll drop it."
"You're uglier than the frog costume Miss Blanchet wore in the play." (Lady Evelyn)
Lady Harriot froze, staring at him for a long moment. Despite her words, she realized he truly was handsome- but the thought wouldn't leave her lips. Meanwhile, Lady Evelyn's glare bore into him, sharp, as if daring him to continue his nonsense.
The group stepped further into the infirmary.
The air was warm, filled with the calming scent of herbs and medicinal salves. Sunlight poured through the tall windows, pooling across the beds neatly lined against the walls.
"Good afternoon, sleeping beauty! Are you awake?" (Lord Ein) went first and greeted Analissa who was still sleeping. "I guess she is still not awake. I was hoping to tell her many things today, but well..."
Lady Evelyn sighs, feeling a bit more depressed but she tries to lighten the mood for the group. "That's what happens if you use all of your mana in one day, you take a long time to recover it all."
"Oh dear... I hope she gets well." (Lady Margaret) frowns, she was hoping for the blonde girl to be awake to talk to her about how she looked really well in pants.
Lady Blaire chuckles, "Her flashy move at the magic duel really gave us quite the scare. I've never seen anything like it in my entire life."
"I-I brought gifts with me, [Inventorium]." While Lady Harriot brought snacks, taking it out of her inventory and placing it right on the bedside table.
Indeed while that is true that using a lot of mana would cause such case-
"..."
The heroine was already awake, feeling fine and a little panicky after hearing many voices enter the room all at once.
'Who are all of you and what the hell are you all doing here?!'
Lady Margaret couldn't help but walk closer observing her face, to think that a commoner was born with this much aura and face card privileges; she can't believe that she's still not being adopted by other noble families. "Sigh... even while she's sick she still looks beautiful."
Lady Analissa was taken aback, 'I would rather not be sick but thank you for the compliment whoever you are!'
The visit to the infirmary continues!
