Varkesh was worried that the demon wouldn't be ready for what was coming. Even if Noah expected the humans to attack him, that didn't mean he knew what day they would come, when they would arrive, or who would be among them.
The humans also believed their chances of success on this mission were higher than ever. As far as they knew, nothing had alerted the demon to their approach.
However, little did they know that deeper within the forest, their target was already waiting for them.
Noah's creatures had gathered outside the barricade, joined by Morvyr and his forces. None of them seemed particularly concerned by the storm steadily worsening overhead.
Their gathering had a much more noticeable effect on the rest of the forest.
