My shield warriors felt the immediate threat of the swarm and didn't hesitate to use their combined skill from the very start. I didn't stop them.
After all, we hadn't even crossed half of the tunnel yet, and the air was already getting thick with the musk of the monsters.
Their skill would buy us more time and let the others, especially the human survivors like the Major and Karoline, adapt to the frantic fighting styles of those rats.

The giant, ethereal shield emanated from the line of warriors, glowing with a harsh light as it headed fast towards the rats charging up from the darkness. It swept them all like a broom sweeping dust. The impact was titanic.
"Keep running," I shouted, my voice booming over the sound of the collision. Just as I noticed the Jumper's body tensing with the intention to break formation and attack individually, I hurriedly added, "Don't stop moving! We win by distance, not by kill count!"
