Just hearing the sounds of explosions this close startled me a few times. That banging, loud noise of the detonations was really annoying!
And on top of everything, the most frustrating part was that nothing they were doing—none of their kinetic actions—would work at all against the spectral shielding of the higher-tier monsters.
They were burning through millions of dollars in ordnance just to make noise and smoke.
"I'm Major Mingel," a tough-looking middle-aged man announced himself once I passed through the tight monster encirclement. I looked at him, my eyes scanning the insignia on his soot-stained uniform, but I didn't say anything in return immediately. I had more pressing matters than military introductions.
"Go, kill those bastards coming closer to here," I barked to my warriors and dragons, pointing toward the breach in their defensive perimeter. "Don't let a fly pass by, do you understand? I want a clean zone!"
Roar!
