I looked at the golden bone in my hand and felt a flicker of hesitation. "I'll give you one to try, but not this one," I said, my voice leaving no room for negotiation.
I tucked the golden treasure back into my inventory and pulled out a torso bone that brimmed with a piercing white light. It was a high-grade remnant, but nowhere near the legendary status of the golden vertebrae. "You can take this."
"Thanks, Master," the lead dragon replied.
Unlike what I expected, he didn't look disturbed or slighted by my decision. It seemed that to these soul-merged beings, any draconic remnant was a divine feast, regardless of the quality.
I stood in silence, watching him curiously. I expected a ritual, perhaps a magical infusion or a meditative absorption.
Instead, the dragon simply opened his massive jaws and swallowed it whole.
