Rio contemplated, and from these broken and unstable memories, he came to the conclusion that the shadow dragon king likely knew that there was something 'unique' in that direction.
And he talked about it to Ellie at one point in time, but his own memories got corrupted, and thus he couldn't give any information about what Ellie was aiming for to Rio in his final moments.
His memories of his daughter were the only ones he had left intact; most of the other unimportant memories were mostly wiped out by miasma.
'There could be other reasons too but this must be the most likely reason I can think of…'
