Percy rose to his feet, his hand rubbing his sternum. He wiped some spittle from his mouth as he helped Jason up to his feet. "I'm not used to being caught off guard by Team Rocket." Percy mumbled.
Jason shook his head, his lips curled in anger. "They teleported that way." He pointed straight toward the window where they had been. "They're only a couple of blocks away. That Kadabra can't carry all of them. You go, Percy. I need to go get my Spinarak, and I'll be following behind." Jason explained.
Percy looked around before rolling his shoulders. "There's no time to waste." He grunted as he ran toward the window, recalling Crash and releasing Noctowl. Noctowl flew through the window and grabbed Percy's arm as he flew up.
Noctowl was ready to carry Percy outside of combat, but Percy wouldn't want to let Noctowl carry him in combat. Young flying Pokémon were not very good at managing their trainer and a battle at the same time. It took an experienced Pokemon to safely carry a trainer mid-battle. And of course, there were no guarantees.
Percy grunted as his feet hit the cement roof of the building across the street from the initial POI. His legs pumped as he sped across the rooftop. He had a few blocks he had to traverse, but each was separated by a large gap. As he leaped off the side, Noctowl's talons closed around his arm, carrying him quickly across the gap.
He saw no signs of their targets yet, but could see more and more of the chaos the TR operation caused. The whole city was in conflict. Smoke columns rose from tens of different areas. His body was sore, and he was working hard as he leapt past one more street. Noctowl screeched as he signaled toward the street in front of the building Percy landed on.
This building had a slanted roof that forced Percy to slowly climb up one side. His fingers dug in the cracks of the shingles and pulled him up to the peak of the building. He peered over and saw a makeshift Team Rocket shelter. It seemed to be a foldable shelter that the criminal organization used for smaller operations.
There were around 10 members embroiled in tasks. Some set up tech devices and others watched vigilantly with Pokémon. About half of them weren't accompanied by Pokemon, which Percy thought meant they had none. There is no reason not to have a Pokemon out at all times in such a combat hot zone. The remaining members with Pokemon looked competent, and Percy would be at great risk pushing in alone.
As he considered how to proceed, a flash of brown sped toward the shelter. Fists of fire smashed into the light material and blasted the shelter away, exposing more members who were working on captured Pokemon. Team Rocket collapsed on the Monferno, which raged with great power. It was about Crash's level, and as Percy inspected it, he realized it was a familiar face.
It was Jasper's Monferno, one who was on equal ground with Crash. As a TR member swung a shock stick at it, a green haired boy appeared behind him. Jasper's heel smashed into the man's neck, throwing him to the ground. Percy smiled as he climbed over the precipice of the roof. He slid down the shingles and leaped off once more.
He released a few Pokémon at once. Breloom and Fúria appeared at Percy's side as he fell. Noctowl grabbed the back of his shirt to soften his fall before smashing into a Pokémon attacking Jasper. Percy rolled as he hit the ground, grunting in pain. He'd fallen a little harder than he wanted, but was on his feet, tackling a TR member to the ground. Fúria's fists smashed into the back of an Arbok as she joined the battle.
Percy's back pressed against Jasper's as chaos exploded around them. The adrenaline was starting to wear Percy down. "What's the plan?!" He asked as he directed his Pokémon and tried to keep tabs on the situation.
Jasper sneered as he punched a Team Rocket member. "I didn't have one. They took Kushida's Pokémon. I didn't realize there were this many of them." He grunted between orders to his Monferno.
Percy smiled as a stray Pokemon move struck the ground, feet from him. "Dammit. Didn't think of one myself. Jason should be here soon, but even with his help…" Percy trailed off as he shouted at Noctowl. "Watch that smog!!" A Koffing that engaged Noctowl hit the bird with a cloud of dense purple smoke. Noctowl flapped higher into the sky, but not before a purple hue appeared across its face.
Percy barred his teeth as he threw a front kick at an approaching TR member. The man caught his leg and pulled, throwing Percy completely off balance. As Percy's back hit cobblestone, the man's heel slammed into Percy's stomach. Air rushed out of the boy, his eyes wide and his body panicking.
He clutched his stomach in pain as Jasper appeared above him. His messy green hair flew in the air as he launched a series of fast strikes. The man was forced back, recoiling from the bludgeoning. Jasper grasped Percy's shoulders and pulled him to his feet. He patted him and insisted, "Don't drop out on me already." Jasper clicked his pokeball as he summoned another pokemon.
They were outnumbered Pokemon wise at 4:6. Percy's Pokemon were also worn slightly from earlier battles. Though of most Pokemon, his excelled in extended battle. Hearing Jasper's words, Percy became angry. At himself. He is falling behind.
Jason had an easier time earlier with TR, while Percy had been bruised thoroughly. And now, he couldn't keep up. His fists clenched as he regained his breath. His body went rigid as the anger seeped into his subconscious. His nose scrunched up as he directed his Pokémon furiously. His tone, which he hated to admit, was more desperate than anything, turned into decisive, thorough commands.
Feeling their trainer's emotions, his Pokémon doubled their efforts. Fúria's fists shook with her characteristic Mankey line rage, but their power took on new levels as she resonated with her trainer's anger. He got angry in a battle very sparingly, and this was not a moment she was going to spoil. Her fist, coated in crimson fighting energy, flashed forward, clashing with the Arbok's Thunder Fang.
Her Karate Chop clashed against its fangs, resulting in a powerful clash that pushed anyone too close back. She screeched as her fist touched the snake's head, right between its eyes. A critical hit caused the Arbok's eyes to shake, before turning spirally.
Breloom dashed forward, its footwork dancing around its Raticate opponent. It gnashed its teeth at her before lunging with Bite. With Percy's commands, she danced out of range and delivered a clean Headbutt. But, before she could react, a Pidgeot came from the sky like a missile. As its talons pinned Breloom to the ground, dust flew across the street.
The whole battle froze as a level 37 Pokémon landed on the scene. Percy's eyes were wide as he made eye contact with his scared Breloom. Her eyes were full of fear and a desperate, silent request for help. A man stepped off the back of the bird, hidden by the beautiful Pidgeot's robust feathers.
His black uniform showed in the light as he laughed. "You may leave children." He snidely said. He had a large frame, and Percy had seen him before. This was the TR member the Alolan trainer had been fighting at the building. Had he lost?
Percy and Jasper exchanged glances. With all their Pokémon combined, at full strength, they may have a chance against his one level 37 Pokemon. The differences in levels only got larger. Percy's mind raced as he looked at each of his Pokemon, who were being slowly approached by the tertiary TR members. Jasper was equally as frozen. "Deerlings in headlights but like a Litleo to get into battle. Young trainers always fascinate me." The large framed man said.
He calmly strode up to Percy. A TR member holding his cheek from a punch earlier moved to the side. The man approached Percy with a hand up, as if reaching out to touch him. "I wouldn't lay a hand on me." Percy sneered. His fist clenched and unclenched at his side.
The man smirked and extended his head forward with an encouraging nod. "Or what? What could you do to me?" His smile showed white, straight teeth, and his eyes shone with a curious glint.
Percy smiled as well, "It depends if you need your Pokémon to get involved. But with just you?…" Percy shook his head and chuckled slightly. He was buying time while trying to come off as confident as possible.
The man recoiled slightly at Percy's response before clapping slowly. "Wow. That was good. I felt the urge to fight you right here. Fisticuffs and maybe some brass knuckles mixed in. Pack this shit up." He directed some of the TR members, who openly enjoyed watching their opponents be belittled. "A stupid man may have fallen for your provocation. Not now. We're on a time crunch." The man said.
As he turned around, a voice called from down the street. "Hey!" A man in a beachy shirt and open sandals strolled down the sidewalk. He tossed a pokeball in his hand over and over.
The strong TR member looked back. "I've defeated your team already, sun bum. You've got no business here." He said coldly.
The other man's straw colored hair flowed in the breeze. "It's true, you defeated my Kanto team. Now, it's time for you to meet my Alolan team." He clicked open the pokeball and an enormous red turtle appeared in front of him. "Turtonator, use Flamethrower."
