For a moment, Alex could only stare at the reporter, then she almost laughed.
The question was absurd, but it also made something else very clear. Very few people knew that much about her past—about Will, about her difficulty with touch, about the particular shape her life had taken. That information had not found its way into this room by accident.
Will. She shook her head, briefly and bitterly amused by how much a person could give someone they trusted without ever realizing how much they were handing over.
"I think you've actually helped me make my point," Alex said, lifting the microphone again. "The only man I've ever allowed to touch me—outside of the professional context that doesn't give me a choice—is Ethan."
The room was very quiet.
"Not Will. Not anyone else. Ethan is the only exception in my life."
