The van smelled like winter air, cologne, and emotional tension.
I sat on the right side.
Steven on the left.
Michelle—my Chelle—right in the middle.
Which normally would've been a dream placement for me.
Except not today.
Because from the moment I boarded the van, something felt off.
Steven kept glancing at her.
Michelle kept trying not to glance at him.
And every time their eyes met—even briefly—the air tightened like someone pulled invisible strings between them.
Ugh.
It's been less than two months since Country A.
SIX WEEKS. to be precise.
And suddenly it's… this.
I crossed my arms and glared at the back of the seat in front of me.
I came home with two goals:
Goal 1: Make sure Michelle was okay after all the shit that went down with Lara.
Goal 2: Fix the group before we fractured beyond repair.
But the second I saw her at the airport…
