There are many situations in life I am prepared to handle.
Corporate negotiations with my father.
Arguments with Lara.
Explaining coding logic to Vince.
Handling Jasmine's sharpened tongue.
Putting up with Andy's existence.
But nothing — and I mean nothing — could have prepared me for the sight of forty-eight Peng relatives dragging Michelle Lui into their mansion like she was a lost princess they had waited their whole lives for.
I watched helplessly as she disappeared into the house with the force of a small hurricane.
And me?
I was being blocked by Peng Cousin #7, #8, #12, and at least two elderly aunties.
"Aiya, Steven! When did you get back?"
"You grew again — so tall!"
"Why are your shoulders so broad?"
"Eat more! You look stressed!"
I wanted to say:
I AM stressed. Your son is trying to steal my… something.
