Chapter 30 - Why Haven't We Met Before, Lady?

Muttered a few words

"Golden Seeking Grass."

This is an herb with excellent healing properties for wounds.

It grows in dark, damp places, usually at the edges of forest swamps, and is very hard to find.

Unexpectedly, there's a stalk of it right here.

As the boat glided slowly past the shore, they saw a woman in white standing beneath a weeping willow.

The woman had a lovely face, and especially as she stood there with a calm, tranquil air, she could immediately be distinguished from the crowd.

Xue Liang glanced at the woman twice, only to find her unfamiliar.

The friend beside him noticed and followed Xue Liang's gaze.

Then, folding fan in hand, his friend exclaimed in surprise,

"Whose young lady is this? How come we've never seen her before?"

Then, his friend called out loudly toward the person on shore,

"Miss, you're all alone—would you care to join us for a boat ride on the lake?"

Su Ye withdrew her gaze from the Golden Seeking Grass and looked over the boat, glancing left and right.

She made sure that these people were indeed calling out to her.

Her eyes circled around Xue Liang first, then swept across the rest on the boat, her brows twitching ever so slightly.

She hadn't yet replied, but the boat had already drifted to the shore.

Xue Liang, clad in brocade clothes, stood at the bow of the boat, locking eyes with her.

Su Ye glanced once more at the spot where the Golden Seeking Grass grew.

This boat sure arrived at a convenient time.

She nodded.

"Alright."

As long as they weren't awkward, she didn't really care either way.

She stepped forward and boarded the boat.

On the boat, besides the boatman, there were five other people—two men and three women.

At the very back of the cabin sat a woman, dressed in purple and meditating with her eyes closed, clearly cultivating.

Then the man with the folding fan spoke up with a smile,

"I am Yang Xuan. May I ask your name, miss?"

Maybe it was Yang Xuan's enthusiasm, but ever since Su Ye boarded the boat, the two young ladies sitting inside the cabin had been sizing her up.

She let out a light laugh and spoke,

"Su Ye."

As soon as the words were uttered, all eyes on the boat turned toward Su Ye again.

Yang Xuan twirled his folding fan, looking every bit the dashing young gentleman,

"You must be from out of town, aren't you, miss?"

Su Ye looked at him,

"Hm?"

With a laugh, he said,

"You know, in our Xuan Yue City, there's a Young City Lord with the exact same name as you. Her favorite hobbies are snatching men and being arrogant and domineering.

If you were from Xuan Yue City, you'd probably have changed your name long ago."

He was just teasing, trying to lighten the mood.

But all Su Ye said, neither warmly nor coldly, was,

"Oh, is that so."

Yang Xuan fiddled with his fan, as if recalling something, and looked at Xue Liang,

"A few days ago, the Spring-Welcoming House was burned to the ground. I heard the Madam and those thugs all died in that big fire, and even the hidden Dark Arena was dug out—pile after pile of corpses, absolutely horrifying. Tell me, do you think this has anything to do with our Young City Lord?"

Xue Liang sneered,

"She's not that capable yet."

Su Ye was stunned when she heard this, staring straight at Xue Liang.

The Spring-Welcoming House burned down, and even the Madam died? Who did this?

Then does that mean she doesn't have to pay back the one hundred thousand taels of gold anymore??

She'd been busy scrambling for money these past few days, and only now did she hear of such a big event.

In the stillness, a young woman inside the cabin chuckled lightly,

"Yang Xuan, what nonsense are you muttering? Haven't you noticed this pretty lady's attention has been on Xue Liang the entire time?"

As she finished, all eyes on the boat gathered once more on Xue Liang and Su Ye.

Yang Xuan seemed quite used to such situations and said with a smile,

"Miss, do you also think my good friend here is especially easy on the eyes?"
