As Tessa had expected, things really weren't over.
The next day, while she was out for an interview, her stepmother came directly to confront her.
Tessa was utterly speechless.
The stepmother looked at Tessa with grievance, tears streaming down her face, wearing a victim's expression: "Tessa, you can't be so heartless, you have to help your brother. If you don't help him, he won't be able to get married."
Tessa knew that her stepmother always had excellent acting skills.
She spread her hands, looking helpless: "How can I help you? Your son is marrying a girl from the Sterling Family, the richest family in this city?"
Her tone dripped with mockery.
The stepmother's face stiffened but she continued with her tragic act: "Tessa, I was wrong before, I was bad, I was blind, but Zion is your brother, and you both have a brother, Silas. Zion treats Silas well too, right? Just help this once, talk to Faye, and make him agree to cooperate with the Sterling Family."
