Chapter 10 - Down boy

Sera's POV:

I don't like how comfortable I feel around these random people. It's confusing to me because I rarely like people. I've always had a way with words and people like me, but it's not usually mutual. So why? Why is my guard down? And why are they not on edge right now? If this information got leaked, people from all over would target Devils Moon pack. So why do they trust me?

"Why was telling me about your secret so easy?" I asked Asterelle.

Asterelle sat there in thought for a moment, "This may sound... weird, but I know for a fact you wouldn't use this information for your own benefit." She said with a small smile on her face. She appeared to be contemplating something so I just watched her to see if she had more to say. Suddenly, she looked me right in the eyes and said, "For some reason, it feels like our meeting was written in the stars. I never knew I'd meet you, yet it feels like I'd been looking forward to it for a long time."

"So you're trusting me with a secret that could destroy you, out of instinct?" I asked, sarcasm and skepticism woven into my words.

"Well, I wouldn't have told you if you couldn't see me. By the way, how did a pure Lycan like yourself come to possess such mental power?" She answered.

"That's a story for another day. Though I feel at ease speaking to you, I won't turn this conversation into a slumber party by sharing my own secrets with you." I said with finality. Talking about myself is something I never do. Not to Axel, not to Kitty, not to anyone.

I turned around and looked at the ball going on below us. I saw that my parents were now dancing, spinning gracefully to Saint-Saens The Carnival of the Animals: XIII. A personal favorite of mine. It's my favorite to play; and to listen and dance to. Playing music had always been an escape for me. When I first started learning, mother would teach me every day. That is, until she found out that I'm "special". She felt that I was above playing music.

Her exact words were, "Darling, you are different, you shouldn't waste your time on a trade that other people can do. Do something big and unheard of. Make mother proud." She never understood that I did it to spend time with her. I ended up teaching myself in secret because getting better at anything other than killing was a waste of time in her eyes.

I was pulled out of my thoughts by Silas' loud mouth, "Serbear! Come dance with me?" When I turned around, I was greeted by Axel and Silas looking worried. They must have sensed my unease as wolves are very in touch with emotions.

"As long as you let me go when you're supposed to." I joked to show them that I was okay.

"Don't worry, I learned my lesson the first time. The burn has healed but my hand still hurts." Silas said with a grimace.

Silas held out his hand, which I took, and tucked my arm in his, linking our arms together. He escorted me down the stairs slowly, at an elegant pace and brought me to the very center of the dance floor. The dancing bodies just parted for us to pass. I could feel all the eyes on us, gazes filled with both awe and jealousy.

"Every woman here is going to hate my guts because of you, ya know?" I mocked Silas.

He didn't mind though and shot back at me, "And every man here is cutting me into tiny pieces in their minds because of you. How will you compensate me for all the shit I'll hear from my friends after this?" He said pointing towards a group of gaping men in the corner of the room.

"The dance is my compensation." I told him in a duh tone.

"And people call me a narcissist." He muttered back.

"Just follow my lead pretty boy." I mocked him again, but he doesn't seem to mind at all. In fact, my words made his face light up like a Christmas tree.

"So you admit that I'm attractive? And I've been attending these events for years, I'll lead; you just try not to step on my toes."

We stopped in the middle of the room and faced each other. I placed one hand and his shoulder and grabbed his hand with my free one. His right hand gripped my hips and pulled me closer to him. Not close enough for our bodies to touch, but close enough to appear more intimate than we are.

"So you're trying to make a scene?" I laughed at him.

I have to give the kid credit for he is definitely a smooth talker. He immediately replied, "Maybe I just wanted to be closer to you."

"I'm a very observant person and lying to me is impossible. You've been stealing glances at her since we left the booth." I said, jutting my chin slightly in the direction of a beautiful girl. She had wavy chestnut hair and big green eyes. She was pale and shorter than most here. She was definitely vampire from the smell of her, but a weaker one. You could tell by her eye color. The purest of vampire bloodlines all have red eyes.

"Are you trying to make her jealous?" I asked. I had pinned him as the player type but he obviously really liked this girl.

Silas sighed and said, "I just want her to admit that she likes me. I've known her for years and I always pray that she's my mate. She turns 18 in four months but I want her to admit that she likes me before the mate bond."

"How are you so sure she's your mate?" I asked while he spun me out and back in.

"I don't know, I just feel it." Silas said, staring at her.

"You're making it obvious. I'll help you but only because it's funny how all your game flies out the window when it comes to this girl." I was enjoying his misery.

He rolled his eyes at me saying, "Okay, how do I make her say it?"

"First, stop staring at her, look at me." I used my hand on the back of his neck to angle his head towards me.

"Next, stop dancing towards her. Dance away from her." I said, changing our direction. I looked up at him and smiled at him and he flashed his pearly whites down at me in return. We stayed like that for a solid minute, the entire time I could feel her eyes on us.

"Good, now she's the one whose staring." I said and Silas looked up from me to make eye contact with her. She really is pretty, but in a Bambi kind of way. It's ironic really, she looks so frail and innocent but she could drain you of your blood in 3 seconds flat.

I watched as she looked at her feet like they were to most interesting thing in the room. Suddenly, she glared at me and ran towards the back garden. I smirked, people are so simple. Silas panicked and looked at me accusingly.

"Down boy, this is what you want. Now's the part where you go after her. Let her yell at you until she slips up and admits her feelings then you can thank me." I said to him, bored of this already.

I stepped away from Silas as I shooed him towards his girl. He looked like he didn't want to leave, probably thinking it'd be embarrassing for me if he ran after another girl; leaving me alone on the dance floor.

"The gentleman thing doesn't suit you. Just go, she might leave at this point." I said to him with one brow raised and a smirk playing at my lips.

"But..." he started and didn't get to finish because the most alluring voice I've ever heard interrupted him. It was deep and hoarse and made the hairs on my neck stand up. Butterflies danced in my stomach and chills erupted across my skin. This voice is... dangerous.

"Go after your girl, brother. I'll take care of this one." The voice said. He sounded angry at Silas. No, it was more than anger. His voice was filled with so much tension, enough to crush Silas' skull and rip him to pieces.

I noticed how Silas' eyes grew big as saucers and he gulped loudly. Looks like Silas picked up on the danger in that voice as well. Silas only nodded and scurried away as if his ass was on fire. I took a deep breath before turning around to meet eyes with the owner of the voice.
