There was a touch of heartache in his dark eyes.
He looked at Scarlett Xavier and asked uncertainly, "Really?"
Scarlett Xavier glanced at him and smiled, "I'm teasing you."
She reached out to embrace Julian Rhodes as if to comfort him, "Did you take it seriously?"
He took it seriously all of a sudden, and it frightened her a bit.
It was clearly just a joke.
But for a moment, her sadness was genuine.
Julian Rhodes said, "You were being serious."
"I said it was a joke." Scarlett Xavier hugged him and kissed him on the cheek, "Don't take it seriously, don't be angry. My husband is the most important."
Serena sat beside them, watching as her mom hugged her dad and kissed him on the cheek. They completely ignored her, and with a clatter, she threw her bottle onto the floor.
Scarlett Xavier heard the noise, looked back at her, and was about to bend down to pick it up.
Julian Rhodes stopped Scarlett Xavier, "I'll do it."
"Why?" Scarlett Xavier was a bit exasperated with him.
