Chapter 43 - CAREEN'S DISCOMFORT

How did he hear that? I know he always has something to say."Jeff, I have seen her when the Wilsons met us by the restaurant; she was able to keep him calm."

"But Dad, he had a bad night?"

"Yes, I agree that he did, but that was due to the Wilsons asking about the children; they caused him to become angry and get in his silent mode.

And his bad night was because I blamed him for ignoring Shawney, and he was blaming himself for it."

When Carl stood up, seeing Torren and Shawney descending the stairs. He knew if Torren heard them discussing him, he would become angry "Let us sit at the table."

Unable to control himself, Jeff turned and said, "I can't believe it, big brother."

"What can't you believe, Jeff?"

"You look amazing." Watching him smile, then look at Shawney when he said, "Thank you, I feel amazing, Jeff."

About to sit, Carl sees Caren walk toward Torren, 'She had always liked him.' "Torren, you look handsome," then hugged him.

"Thank you, Careen, and am I seeing right?"

Careen looked at Carl, seeing the nod, then back at Torren, "Yes, you are."

It was only then that Shawney realised what Torren was asking. Recalling her experience earlier, she asks, "Were you having problems with the baby earlier today?"

Careen finds it strange that Shawney should ask such a question; she hadn't mentioned anything about her discomfort to anyone. "Why do you ask Shawney?"

Shawney didn't want to pry, knowing it was Careen's baby who was crying, "I was just wondering, that's all."

All took their seats as Torren looked at Shawney, recalling that she had wanted to know if there was another baby in the house.

She had said she heard a baby crying, which was why she ran out of the house. 'Dear God, did she feel the baby's presence? Her faith is strong, and God does speak to her, and she knows His voice. Oh, if only I could know and understand when the Lord is speaking."

Becoming confused, Torren's mind began racing, "Lord, there are so many different voices in my head sometimes. How will I recognise Yours when I have so much trouble hearing Shawney's voice? Especially with all the other voices covering up her fine voice.'

Train lifts his head, wanting to know what made the sound on the table, and he observes as though Shawney was lost in her own thoughts.

She has not touched her food. Seeing Torren crying, his spoon had made a sound when it fell on the plate and scattered the food.

Shawney, looking up, seeing him in tears, reaching out, taking his hand, and kissing it. "Don't you like the food, Torren? Come, I will fix you something to eat." When he remains silent, she said, "Okay, be like that. This time, when I leave, I won't be returning?"

The others around the table were overwhelmed with surprise at how quickly he reacted. He grabbed hold of her hand, fighting to regain control.

All those around the table noticed her in tears when Carl went to hold his hand, Shawney stopped him. Hearing Carl say in a whisper, "He is hurting you, Shawney."

"I know, but he is hurting more."

They had all stopped eating. "Please continue with your meals", Train observed how she was gently stroking his hand, just like when we had met the Wilsons.

Noticing her exhale as she closes her eyes, then, with both her hands, she took his, "You are going to be fine, now come on, finish eating, then we will go for a walk."

Carl thought, as he recalled yesterday, 'when Torren was so full of rage, scattering her belongings, she wasn't angry. All she was doing was praying for him, and now, even though he was hurting her, she seemed to understand how he was feeling. How is that possible?' Noticing how quickly he released her hand, and gradually his anger simmered down.

"Shawney, Torren is not a child." Jeff snapped.

"That's it, I am fed up with your stupidity. When you regain your sight and some common sense, you could come for me." Lasandra snapped at Jeff and stood up.

"Where are you going?" Jeff asks.

"To my mother's." But Torren holds her hand, "Let me go, Torren. I am tired of him saying things about you."

"It's all right, if you go, then who will defend me?"

"Okay, for you I will stay, but next time I will burst his mouth."

"You could do that," Torren replies.

Carl laughs, "I will help you, Lasandra."

When Liz came with the children, "Ma'am, do you mind?"

"Come, honey, you are being a very naughty girl." After taking Gretta in her arms, Shawney relieved Liz by saying, "It's all right now, Liz, you go ahead and have your lunch, I will feed the children."

"Dad, why didn't I see Candis come down for lunch? Tell me where she is?" Torren asks. Curious to know exactly what is going on, knowing Candis is always the first to sit at the table.

"I don't know, son, they seem to have disappeared."

"Daddy, Aunty is in the kitchen eating."

Train notice Torren stroke Tray hand, "Thank you, Son."

Lasandra and Careen, who were sitting on each side of their father-in-law, touch his hand, "Dad, I know how you feel."

Train wipes the tears of joy away as he whispers, "Lasandra, my child, I have dreamt of this day for so long."

Holding her father-in-law's hand, Lasandre whispers comforting words, "I know, Dad, we should all be happy."

Train patted her hand and said, "Don't be angry with him, my child."

"I can't help it, Dad, he makes me so angry when he speaks without thinking, especially what his words do to you and Torren."
