At the hospital, the detective's questions came rapid-fire, but Derrick's answers were measured, revealing nothing. Lena sat beside him, her presence a calming force.
As the detective scribbled notes, Derrick's mind wandered to his father, lying in the operating room. He pushed the thought aside, focusing on the task at hand.
The detective closed his notebook. "We'll need to look into your alibi, Mr. Lanzo. Can you account for your whereabouts tonight?"
Derrick nodded. "I was with Lena, at the safe house. We were ambushed."
The detective raised an eyebrow. "And you didn't see the attackers?"
Derrick shook his head. "No, they were masked. But I suspect it was Marcus and the Garcias."
The detective nodded, making a note. "We'll look into it."
As the police left, he knew their investigations might not go far because the Garcias will cover up their tracks. Derrick turned to Lena. "We need to find the mole. Now."
