PROLOGUE
My name is Toda Toshikore. I am a 14-year-old adventurer and I am going out on my first mission. I was taken on by a guild. This guild had multiple squads. The one I was in consisted of only low-level mages, healers and adventurers. There was an old mage, a young healer girl and three low-level adventurers; one of these being myself.
Our first mission was to venture into a nearby forest called the small shadow due to it being next to a much larger forest with stronger monsters in it, but compared to those monsters the monsters in the shadow are much weaker generally consisting of level 1-25 monsters.
The Leveling System
The level scaling system works by 100 levels being equal to a tier, level 1 - 100 = E class, level 101 - 200 = D class and so on.
The reason that you wouldn't see monsters from the larger forest in the shadow is due to the shadow being much less densely populated and therefore there is less prey for them to hunt.
Chapter 1: The End!
My squad trekked for hours in a dark woodland area. There were miles and miles of tightly condensed cedar trees. These were infested by wolves and other low-level monsters. As a wolf came bolting at me, I used my family's combat skill that had been passed down for generations.
"Thunder Slash!"
As fast as lightning I trusted forwards with my dagger. a blinding yellow flash followed the tip straight through the wolf. It combusted instantaneously. I ran to catch up with my group which had ventured further into the forest where they had discovered a cave. Believing there to be a treasure, we entered.
The eldest in my squad shouted something.
"Toshikore, Aishi and Tsuna, follow me into the cave, Kanashi you can stay outside and stay on guard."
We followed him in.
The first thing that happened when I walked in is multiple crashing boulders covered the exit. darkness enveloped us, a swarm of mangled goblins circled us, and the eldest troglodyte spoke "kill them" quickly we were swarmed by goblins they hacked and slashed but being such weak creatures we killed them all but soon we heard a boom and a voice emitting true monstrous power appeared in front of us "now you have woken me" it grunted, covering us in spit, "I demand a sacrifice and the rest of you can survive" I screamed inside, the group that I was in were all friends or family so of course I was chosen. Crack. I was knocked unconscious by the hilt of one of my teammates' swords, "c'mon let's get out of here before that beast changes its mind." In my mind, I found meaning. In my next life, I'm going to kill all the people who betray me.
I woke up, the area was pitch black except for a glistening light beaming down from in front of me, I walked into the light.
I was immediately attacked by a massive beast; this beast was a 13-foot-tall ogre with a mutilated body and lopsided arms, this is the beast I thought my end is near, but then I remembered my reason, my goal. I cannot die, I cannot die until I have taken revenge. In desperation I leapt forward and attacked the ogre, it swung its mighty club with such force and bludgeoned my arm off. I flew back, blood mist spraying around me, lumps of flesh cushioned my fall before I smashed into the wall. Rage overwhelmed me. I then leapt forward with such power that my leg broke and blood sprayed. The ogre swung his club in defence missing my body but brutally mutilating my leg, I landed on the ogre's shoulder and rapidly sunk my teeth its rotting flesh. It was at that point I heard a voice in my head.
"Ability unlocked: Hunger.
This ability gives you the skills and attributes of everything that you eat."
My strength increased by almost double instantly and the ogre screamed out in pain, in retaliation the ogre grabbed me and threw me off his shoulder but this time I hit the cave wall it didn't hurt or injure me instead I cracked the cave walI, leapt at the ogre once again, it was unable to defend due to its shock of my increased strength. I flew past it but in the process I grabbed its arm and ripped it off this even shocked me by giving me a burst of confidence, I strolled up to the injured ogre and grabbed its head ripped. Blood was now stained on the cave walls, a human never left that cave no it can not be described as human anymore.
The goblins start running down the paths of the damp, pitch-black cave. "what a lucky man I am to have the snack delivered directly to me" I think to myself. I hunt them down individually and eat them alive, none survive. Goblins are weak creatures but the troglodyte elder was a mage, eating him increased my mana by 5 levels, I realize something although hunger seems to be an unrivalled skill there are downsides to it, my hunger is almost triple what it was as a human, all I crave now is flesh, power and revenge.
I slowly started to lose touch with reality as I wandered the caves alleys trying to find my way out. Unfortunately, this feat would take me a very long time. With almost triple the hunger I became ravenous and scowled the cave on all fours though I didn't even find the faintest hint of life until I found an oasis in the cave. Though this wasn't your regular oasis. The water was a neon blue and had sparkling mana particles floating around in the pool. Its main attraction was its spirits swimming through the water without creating a single ripple. I remembered hearing about this from somewhere, it was called spirit water. It is the most regenerative substance in the universal realm. I dove in head first draining the lake in minutes.

My arm grew back and my leg healed. As I drank, my thirst and hunger rapidly vanished, my anger for the people who abandoned me didn't though. I crawled out of the water and I saw a blue slimy blob squirming frantically around the hard and rocky floor. I scowled and ran towards it, I used the new hand I had grown to pick up the slime, I shoved it down my throat. At first, nothing happened then I started to feel unwell. The slime was poisonous. Since whatever I eat, I gain the properties of, the poison stopped.
Side Note
The properties of a slime are poison resistance, limb regrowth, sticky body, night vision and body morphing.
After this I started to wander again, the caves were lit up with the night vision. The walls shined with magnificent crystals and ores of all kinds. As I crawled around the cave, I thought it would be a good idea to try eating some of these. I broke multiple teeth, that regenerated instantly, trying to break through a piece of iron ore. After I finally managed to rip through it my skin became hard like iron. With my new strength and this, there is no cage that can hold me. With this newly gained strength, I punched my way through the roof of the cave while sticking to the wall.
