Chapter 307 - Watching

PoV Viccy

The Meeting for our necessary needs was over, and I finally asked, "Alright, everyone, I will take the next post for watching the dead drop while the rest of you continue to search for potential places that they can put many undead," I said with a sigh, and the rest of the party sighed as well.

The biggest problem we were having was that a dead drop is incredibly boring to watch, and I got up since we all have been rotating our watch schedules. Today was my turn, and I was not sure if I should be happy or sad about it as I thought about it. We had been looking either in the sewers or watching the dead drop for a week now, and if it was not for the fact that my love was being punished for being gone so long, we would have long dropped this quest.

Sure, there were problems for dropping quests, but this damn quest had taken weeks. It was just not worth it anymore. This was another thing that I would be bringing up to the company game programmers. Some of the quests were just a little too realistic. No one wanted to watch a dead drop, and as I left the little compound, I heard Mark working on more iron.

I had recently gotten Mark to make me a batch of arrows, and he was incredibly skilled, but it made me think about a couple of the overly realistic aspects of the game. Hell, the AI realism was off the charts, and I knew the man I hired for the job was a godly talent. I had no idea how he pulled it off, but sometimes I thought he might have hired a bunch of foreigners if that would not have shown in the accounts.

Walking through this world was amazing. My body was lithe, fit, and I moved through the fantasy world with glee. I felt a pep in my step as I literally walked through my dreams. This was what I had been wanting my entire childhood when I first saw a Virtual reality anime. I lost my mind and wanted to live in one myself. I wanted to see it, experience a game world, and I remember being disappointed when I couldn't.

The technology just was not there.

I was in elementary school at the time, but I was already six and had already graduated Middle school. I was starting to lose my drive as the people I was surrounded by were older and older, and I could not relate to them. So I became more and more introverted. Then I saw anime, and I wanted it.

I wanted to be in a world where people played together face to face. I wanted to live in a world of guild battles and various other things. I wanted a living, breathing world I could step in and out of, and so, if it did not already exist. Why should I just not try to create it myself? It was the first time that I actually cared about something, and so I strove forward, and what came next was relentless years of study.

Looking around, I could see it: my dream. This virtual world looked amazing. I could take in the smells even if those smells were bad. The Slums did not smell great. I sacrificed to make this dream come true, and I reveled in it as I basked in this sensation. I might not have created this world myself, but I created the technology that allows it to be played.

A Man named Kamal Patal was the man who created this world. A genius programmer I hired from India. The man was a damn god when it came to programming, and when he learned how close I might be to making Technology that might allow us to make a game. He was on board. One hundred and ten percent on board, and he was the one who created the engine for Grand Adventure Online.

Moving through his worlds game engine was amazing, and I reached the point of the dead drop. It was an inconspicuous corner, and I moved to a spot where I was almost out of sight, where I found a scraggly-looking man and walked up and raised an eyebrow, and the man raised an eyebrow in return. I handed him a couple of silver coins.

"I watched all night, pwetty lady," the scraggly man said. "No one came to the spot you pointed."

I nodded and waved him away. IT was a point that I hated to do since we all had grown more and more bored watching this point, and so we paid a beggar to assist in watching at night. It was stupid if we ever wanted to complete this damn quest, but we all were growing exasperated after weeks. I leaned against the wall the man just vacated and felt my bow bite into me a little, but I did not mind too much.

I lost myself in thought as I watched the spot in the corner of my eye. I could not show that I was watching the dead drop location hard, and I waited. I wanted to do more, but I couldn't tip off whoever came to pick up or drop off from the location. We were not counting this as the only way to find that damn necromancer, but it seemed to be the only lead that was worth something.

My mind drifted as I watched while not 'watching,' and I thought about minor problems with the game. My love's combat ability was both broken and stupid. The fact that he had to hum to battle while doing things was another one of those things I would talk to the gaming department about. Luckily, Kamal was not running that department. The man was lovingly steadfast on his decisions. He made the engine of this world, and he was steadfast in creating a code that would use the technology I dedicated my entire early life towards. I am still stunned by how fast I learned to make this technology.

It only took overall about a decade of study and experimentation if we included my doctorates and theses. I always found learning quick, though, and I got lucky. Lucky like my love, I could not believe that he reached out to me just as my crowning achievement was going to hit the market. Already I had the military on my back wanting to create a dedicated training space in the virtual world, but that was game programming's problem. I knew that government contract was more than enough to pay the company bills, but this was my dream.

This was my love.

This world.

Then my love sho-

My thoughts blanked for a moment as I saw something in the corner of my eye, and my eyes narrowed. I turned them, and I watched a normal-looking human man reach forward to the dead drop location. Suddenly I watched the man reach impossibly deep, then pull something out with a black box and shove it into his shirt, and put something back impossibly deep, then turn around and start walking away. I turned, and I had a massive smile on my face as I began to follow.

'FUCKING FINALLY!' I roared in my mind, extremely happy that something was finally happening, and I started to follow the man from a distance as he started to move through the streets.

I would not lose this asshole.

This, I vowed to my love.
